Trail Overview
The trail begins steeply from Elliston Spotted Dog Road. It starts with a rocky section, rated a 2 on a scale of 1-10 in difficulty. During the winter, this steep portion can be slippery, but in the summer and spring, it is more manageable. The rest of the trail transitions to a flat dirt road, leading through picturesque meadows. Along the way, you might spot wildlife; I once saw a coyote there and have heard wolves howling at night in the fall. The trail passes through private land owned by the Beck Ranch. Please ensure you close the gate behind you. This trail leads to the Slate Creek Trailhead, which is a 50-inch-wide trail during the summer. It is closed to vehicles in the fall and winter but remains open to hiking during those seasons.
