Trail Overview

This is a fun single track in the Pipestone OHV area and more challenging than some of the other single tracks. It's unmarked but starts with BLM Route 7. It goes through a pine tree forest on a broader track. It isn't narrow, and you can tell this one gets ridden more. This route has lots of embedded rock, which goes past huge granite boulders. The decomposed granite on the surface of the dirt makes it slippery. It goes over giant boulders and granite rock features. Some are easy as they are more like a ramp instead of a ledge. Others have more moderate difficulty as they are rock ledges up to a foot tall. One more brutal spot is like a rock garden with many jagged embedded boulders. It's fun in a unique setting and easy to access after riding the other single-track trails in the area (Trail 9, Trail 11, Track Turn, and U-Turn).

Difficulty

This is an intermediate single track due to several moderate rock features including small ledges, ramped boulder faces, and a small rock garden.

Access Description

The Pipestone OHV area is a popular riding area for dirt bikes, ATVs and UTVs near Butte, Montana. It's a low alpine, high desert terrain that can be hot in summer, and crowded on weekends. There is intermittent cell service throughout the trails, and trails are marked with trail ratings and designations. There is a large dirt parking area for trailers on Delmoe Lake Road off of Highway 90 exit 241, north of the highway, that accesses the east end of the trail system. There are also dispersed camp sites and a large dirt parking lot off of Highway 90 exit 233, which accesses the west end of the OHV area from the Homestake Trailhead.
