Trail Overview

This area serves as an advanced rock garden and off-road play zone, specifically designed for drivers who want to push their rig's limits. Scattered throughout are rock obstacles of varying size, with some reaching up to four feet in height. Careful line selection is critical--poor placement can easily result in body damage or even a rollover, especially for rigs without proper clearance or armor. There's ample space nearby for spectators to park and watch the action, creating a great environment for group rides or spotting practice. However, caution should be exercised at all times, as old cables from past mining operations are exposed in certain spots and could pose a hazard if overlooked.

Difficulty

Massive rocks, some up to four feet tall, demand precise line selection, solid spotting, and full confidence in your setup. Rollovers and body damage aren't just possibilities; they're real risks if you take a bad line. This area isn't about cruising; it's about control, capability, and commitment. Caution if key as there are exposed cables from the area's mining past that can be hidden hazards.

History

The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
