Trail Overview

This trail winds through a densely wooded area and features a mostly dirt base, making it an easy to moderate route overall. While there are no significant obstacles or rock features, the main challenge comes from the tight, tree-lined path, Full-size vehicles will need to pay close attention in several sections, as the spacing between trees leaves very little room for error. The trail also includes a handful of sharp corners that may require multi-point turns for longer rigs. There could be a mud puddle or two along the way after recent rainfall. It's a scenic and shaded route, ideal for those who enjoy weaving through the woods, but caution is advised to avoid pinstriping or minor body damage. This trail is best suited for narrower vehicles or drivers confident in tight quarters.

Difficulty

This is a narrow, low-impact trail that prioritizes precision over power. The path is only one vehicle wide from start to finish, so there's no room for passing or turning around in tight spots. While there are no major obstacles or technical terrain, the tight spacing between trees and sharp corners require careful driving, especially for full-size rigs. One bad line could mean body damage or pinstriping.

History

The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
