Trail Overview
This minimally maintained trail branches off from Brimson Trail and is composed of uneven gravel with numerous potholes, puddles, and occasional muddy or rocky sections. As you continue deeper into the route, the trail gradually narrows and becomes more enclosed by vegetation. Several offshoot trails appear along the way, but most are overgrown trails to Cloquet Valley State Forest or marked as private property, restricting access. The further you travel, the more overgrown the trail becomes, with tight brush increasing the risk of pinstriping on wider vehicles. Eventually, the trail reaches a small clearing beside a river, where foot access to the water is possible. The river itself is relatively shallow under normal conditions, but it features rocky stretches and rapids that may become navigable after heavy rainfall. The surrounding forest is a mix of red and white pine, spruce, and birch, providing a quiet and remote atmosphere. There are no developed campsites along this trail. Still, dispersed camping may be an option near the river or in open areas, provided it is outside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Regulations can change, so it's best to check with local authorities before planning your camping trip. The route offers no amenities--no restrooms, potable water, or trash facilities--and cell coverage is likely to be weak or absent. If you choose to camp, plan and follow Leave No Trace principles to minimize your impact.
