Trail Overview

This trail is a well-maintained and easygoing route, perfect for beginners or anyone looking for a relaxing ride. The surface is primarily dirt and gravel, offering smooth driving conditions with no major obstacles or technical sections to navigate. After recent rainfall, you may encounter a few mud puddles along the way, but they are typically shallow and have solid bottoms, making them easy to pass through for most vehicles. One of the standout features of this trail is its generous width, it's wide enough for two vehicles to comfortably pass each other in most sections, which adds to its convenience and accessibility. This is an ideal trail for families, stock rigs, or those looking to enjoy the scenery without breaking a sweat.

The extra-wide path makes passing or turning around simple, and there's no need for advanced gear or high-clearance vehicles.

History

The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
