Trail Overview
This trail presents a mild to moderate challenge and is suitable for most four-wheel-drive vehicles with a bit of ground clearance. Along the route, you'll encounter a few off-camber sections that can cause your vehicle to lean toward nearby trees, so careful line choice is important to avoid scraping. There is also some overgrowth along the trail edges, which means light pinstriping is possible, especially for wider rigs. In a few spots, small rock ledges or embedded rocks may try to catch your undercarriage, but they're generally manageable with proper throttle control. While not overly technical, this trail requires attention in spots and is best suited for those comfortable with uneven terrain.

Difficulty
This trail lands in the light-to-moderate category and is manageable for most 4WD vehicles with decent clearance. While it's not overly technical, it does require a bit of focus. A few off-camber stretches will tilt your vehicle toward trees, so tight spaces and close quarters are part of the experience. There's also some brush and overgrowth, which means pinstriping is a possibility, especially for full-size rigs. Occasional rocky sections may snag low-hanging components, but nothing that should stop a properly equipped vehicle. It's a great trail for those who want a little bit of challenge without getting in over their head.
History
The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
