Trail Overview
The Open Ponds trail can be accessed through the Blue Bird Trail or the east side of the Long Wall Access Trail. This trail traverses along ridges between a number of ponds, and through the valleys of strip hills. When approached from the north side, the Open Ponds Trail begins with a descent and crossing between two bodies of water. A wooded section on the southern portion of the route connects the route to the Blue Bird Trail. This surface can be slick after rainfall, especially on inclines, despite the primarily rocky soil. Some larger rocks may protrude from the surface depending on the frequency of trail repair. During dry seasons, this trail can be completed with ease on a two-wheel drive OHV, although wet conditions can require the use of a four-wheel drive to complete. This trail is accessible by SxS, ATV, and Dirt Bikes, and falls into the blue difficulty rating.
