South Horseshoe

Trail Overview

South Horseshoe is a nearly 6-mile-long dirt bike trail that offers a scenic and flowing ride, well-suited for newer riders. The route features curvy, mountain bike-style singletrack with smooth dirt, benched corners, wide lines, and minimal rock obstacles. While there are occasional roots and small rocks, the trail remains wide enough to pick a good line through the obstacles. The hardest part is near the top of the trail before the intersection with Twin Creek, at a deep, muddy hole, requiring riders to either carry momentum through the mud to avoid getting stuck, or to have to wall ride above the mud to avoid it altogether. The rest of the trail includes mild side-hilling with low exposure, a series of easy, gradual switchbacks, and a few wooden bridges, all of which are pretty manageable for beginner riders. It eventually climbs to a ridge at the intersection with the Mahogany Trail and continues south with narrow, scenic side-hilling to the Big Hole Crest intersection.

This is an easy trail due to its smooth, flowing layout, minimal obstacles, and low exposure. The single muddy section adds a bit of technicality, but the overall route is wide, gradual, and approachable.
