West Skeenah (FS 640) is a twisty, seasonally closed Forest Service road in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. Current MVUM shows a closure date of January 1st to March 15th. Check the current MVUM to verify up-to-date information before heading out. Please report any trash dumpsites to the Blue Ridge Ranger District at (706) 745-6928. West Skeenah is part of the Georgia Traverse Trail System, and thus can be somewhat busy. Adventure/dual sport bikes often visit this area.

Difficulty

Most of this route is generally mild, but a few sections become more challenging due to water-eroded ruts that can surprise drivers in vehicles with limited ground clearance. Random rock outcroppings appear throughout, and occasional potholes tend to collect water and turn muddy. These features require attention but remain manageable with adequate clearance.

Access Description

The West entrance/exit is just off Georgia Highway 60, the East entrance/exit is just off Skeenah Gap Road near the Benton MacKaye Trail parking lot.
