Trail Overview
The West Lost trail start in the high alpine tundra at 12,500 feet, at the intersection with Pole Creek and the non-motorized Colorado Trail. Going north to south, it is a steady decline the whole way, dropping 2,300 feet over almost 8 miles. It has switchbacks and shelfy narrow sections of trail near the end. It's mostly smooth, and not too rocky, going through beautiful aspens. This is an insanely beautiful trail in fall with the changing colors from all the aspens. Being a high elevation trail in Colorado, weather can start to get poor in early fall, and you can also run into snow packs still in early summer.
