Trail Overview

The road is easy at the beginning and gets rocker toward the top in several sections. The road is narrow for the first mile and on weekends the area is very busy. At the start, you travel down into a canyon with Great Cliffs, then opens up into high meadows with nice views.

Small patches of grippy snow and small patches of light mud currently. Otherwise pretty dry still. Certain sections where I wouldn’t take an AWD SUV. High clearance 4x4 with 4L recommended and it was a breeze. Not too tight of a trail, but definitely single track with some natural pull-off spots. Beautiful views

Access Description

From Canon City on County Road/Shelf Road watch for a sign to The Banks, follow this road to the upper parking lot, about 2/3 of the way thru the parking area watch for the road on the right, which are not real well-marked, there is a gate at the beginning. Just off the main road, there is a staging area for trailers. There are restrooms at the upper parking area as well as a large camping area.
