Trail Overview
Never Summer Trail is a 1.1-mile-long challenging dirt bike trail that begins at Illinois River Road and climbs steeply along a rocky hillside. The entire route is uphill from west to east, featuring a mix of embedded boulders, loose cobble, side-hilling, and shelfy sections that hug the hillside. While the trail is narrow in spots, it's mostly a wider trail due to all the embedded rocks that span the width of the trail, making for a slow, technical ascent. Near the top of the climb, the trail includes tight switchbacks with some major rock ledges on the inside of the turn, some of which are dug out and rooty. The trail ends at a junction with the Jack Park single track, which continues with similar but slightly less rocky terrain. Watch out for hikers, as it also ends at a connection to a non-motorized trail. The trail is really scenic throughout the climb, looking out towards the 12k foot tall peaks in the Never Summer Wilderness.
