Trail Overview

This is a 2-mile-long twisty ATV trail through Penrose Commons Recreation Area. The west side starts as a rocky two-track right away, with a steep climb with loose rocks, embedded rocks, and slab rocks with small ledges. This initial hill climb right away makes it a bit more difficult of a trail compared to 6102A. It curves through the pinyon pine trees on the top of the mesa on a much more mellow trail, with the pinyon spread out so you can see far through the bushes. There are a few more sections with 6" tall rock ledges from embedded layers of rock. As it heads east, it crosses the road 6102E and continues winding through the bushes, until it ends on another ATV trail.

Access Description

The Penrose Commons Recreation Site is popular for ATVs, dirt bikers, and extreme four-wheeling. It's rideable year-round but gets really hot here in the summer, and gets closed during wet conditions. There is a dirt parking area at the end of County Road 127 north of the town of Penrose, Colorado. There is space for trailer parking and dispersed campsites past the staging area.
