Trail Overview

Naturita Rim is the third loop in the Thunder Trails. This loop is easier than Thunder and Portis as it has fewer rocks. It is more like a continuation of Portis, continuing through the same terrain of gambel oak, but with tall ponderosa pines rather than pinyon trees as you head south. It has small features like small embedded rocks in the trail, and it makes tight turns through the trees. It winds around gradual hillsides but doesn't really gain any elevation. This one is pretty fast and smooth, but it gets a bit more rocky near the south end. The trail goes through a pinch point and connects to the Goshorn Loop. It crosses the road and heads back north through an even easier forest with wide open grassy sections, fewer bushes lining the trail, and fewer rocks.

Access Description

Follow the signs from the west end of the town of Norwood to the Thunder Trails Trailhead. There is a small dirt parking lot with a turnaround that is okay for small trailers. There are 4 smaller loops that can be ridden as one big loop, for a total of about 20 miles. It is easy to intermediate difficulty and would take an average rider a couple of hours to complete the entire loop.
