Trail Overview

Horse Creek is a fun and easy ATV trail through the San Juan National Forest that descends 1,500 feet from south to north. The south end starts on Mule Mountain and winds through the forest until it ends on Monument Park West Road. This trail makes a nice loop with Elk Creek and is slightly easier than Elk Creek. It has a few rocky sections in between towering ponderosa pine trees, with embedded flat rock surfaces, or chunky loose rock. The trail has some scenic shelfy sections as it traverses the edge of the hillsides, often with wide open views of the mountains, along cool rock walls, and through beautiful aspen groves. This tail has less rock than Elk Creek, and doesn't have any major rock ledges to worry about, and it's very gradual for the entire descent, making it a great trail for beginner riders.
