Trail Overview
Starting at the Mack Ridge Trailhead (great staging area), head west on the maintained gravel road. The road will turn into a two-track trail and will head south, where you will start to climb. Once the trail tops Mack Ridge, the fun will start as the trail continues south, and you will find a narrow switchback-filled trail with large rock ledges as it descends towards the Colorado River and the Crow Bottom area. The trail is very narrow with few passing points. High clearance 4x4 is recommended as there are several rock ledges and no alternate routes. This trail is an out-and-back; once at Crow Bottom, there are foot trails to reach the river. This trail is part of the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area, and no camping is allowed. There are no amenities at the trail; however, just east of the trailhead along Hawkeye Road, there are bathrooms at the main parking lot. There are many hiking and mountain biking trails in the area, as well as the area being the beginning of the Kokopelli Trail. Springtime brings many beautiful flowers. Mostly cactus, sagebrush, and cedar trees alongside the trail. The area has lots of wildlife, antelope, deer, fox, snakes, many birds, including wild turkey, and others seasonally. Always practice Tread Lightly principles when on the trail.
