Trail Overview

Single track Trail 8601 climbs out of the wash from the intersection with 8601B and cuts across a mesa on a dusty and silty trail with lots of whoops. This part is fast and flowy. It has a steep uphill climb on loose dirt with loose rock, then it has lots of twisty turns in the pinyon pine trees. There are a couple of sections of rock slab in the trail and one boulder rock slab obstacle that is easier. It ends on a hill where a two-track starts, but this is unmarked.

Access Description

The McCoy Trail System is on BLM land west of the small town of McCoy, Colorado. This trail system hardly has any trail signs, and has lots of unmarked intersections. There is no service in the area, so it's best to download the maps ahead of time. The system is made up of lots of short trails varying in difficulty from easy to advanced, with lots of rock obstacles and great views of the Colorado River. There is a staging area that is a dirt pull-off on Highway 131 near Trail 8625 that accesses trails on the west and east sides of this highway. There are also some small staging areas and BLM camp spots for small rigs on the Colorado River Road 301 to access the trails from the south. There's some private property in the area that should be respected. This area gets really hot in the summer, so the best times to ride are spring and fall.
