Trail Overview

The upper 4.6 miles of Acorn Grotto are slightly easier than the Lower Acorn Grotto segment, as it doesn't have as much exposure. The south end starts as a shelfy trail curving along the edge of the hillside, through a burn area. The trail was clear of logs, but there will always be potential for downfall, especially through the burn area. This is a popular trail, especially with the mountain bike community, so logs will likely get cut. The trail is pretty wide and smooth, with big banked corners. It's mostly fast and flowy, with only a bit of embedded rock or loose rock in sections. It crosses a couple of rocky ravines and has one section with bigger embedded boulders that you ride over, which makes it more interesting but not overly difficult. It crosses Hough Road (25N14) one more time on the north end, before a few big, wide switchbacks that take you north to connect to Indian Falls Ridge trail.

Difficulty

Overall this trail is moderately easy because it stays pretty gradual and wide, but there are several shelfy sections with mild exposure that wouldn't be ideal for novice riders or those scared of heights. There's one moderate rock feature of embedded boulders that also adds some difficulty.
