Trail Overview

The east end of this trail starts at the end of 16EV133 as more of a continuation of the trail, and it goes through a tight tree corridor on a ridgeline with a bit of loose rock. The trail widens up and smooths out, becoming more like an old shelf road, and gradually descends for the rest of the route. Near the west end, it turns off of that wide section and becomes more of a single track again, meandering on the hilltop between the pines and manzanita. This trail isn't very rocky, but the ground is littered in pine needles, and riders should always be aware of new log hazards. It ends on FS 4N16 across from the start to 16EV136. This trail is seasonally closed 12/16 - 4/14 to motorized use.

Access Description

This trail system in the Stanislaus National Forest can be accessed from either the Deer Creek Staging Area on the west side of the trail system, or from Crandall Campground on the east side of the trail system. The Deer Creek Staging Area is a primitive dirt lot with space for several vehicles and small trailers, accessed via Italian Bar Road. The Crandall OHV Parking and Camping Area has several primitive camp spots with picnic tables. All of the trails are open from April 15 to December 15, but it gets really hot and dry in the summer here, so the best times to visit are spring and fall.
