Trail Overview

15S05 La Posta Truck Trail is a 7.6-mile point-to-point trail rated 3 of 10 located within the Cleveland National Forest, Descanso Ranger District. This trail is usually run in conjunction with Fred Canyon to create a 14.2-mile point-to-point trail and can be run in either direction. It's generally considered a moderately challenging route. This trail is great for off-road driving, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash. The trail is open year-round; however, the Forest Service may close the trail during or after any severe weather. A National Parks Adventure Pass is required if the vehicle is parked along this trail. La Posta Truck Trail climbs into the National Forest heading northeast up to Thing Valley. A gate is located at this point where the road crosses onto private property. At the top of the trail, there is a forced left turn onto Fred Canyon Road. Cell phone service is intermittent. The nearest services are either east or west along Interstate 8.

The trail consists of loose rocks, dirt, and sand with some slick rock surfaces. Mud holes are possible, but there are no steps higher than 12 inches. 4WD may be required, and aggressive tires are a plus.
