Trail Overview
The Western half of the Quartz Mountain summit loop, connecting with the Quartz Mountain Top spur (FS 5S040XD). This two-track route climbs to over 9,000 feet, offering spectacular views to the East over the Ansel Adams Wilderness. The surface is a mix of loose, chunky rock, embedded granite, and packed dirt, with heavy debris on the trail. This area contains the historic Prospect Mine, hinting at its past utility as an administrative/mining route. It should be noted that no evidence of the historic mine remains. This trail is only seasonally accessible once the snow melts out in late June to early July.

Difficulty
This trail is Rated 3 for the high-altitude scramble. The difficulty is due to the embedded and loose chunky rock, which demands high clearance and slow, thoughtful line selection. 4WD is recommended for consistent traction on the steep, exposed grades.
