Trail Overview
This very sandy and dusty trail is one vehicle wide, lined with thick brush throughout most of the route. The trail offers stunning views of the Eastern Sierras and other surrounding hills and rock formations near the Buttermilk Rock climbing area. A good spur trail, 07S04C, branches off and takes you up high into the hills for additional exploration and climbing. At mile 1.5, the trail becomes more narrow with overgrown bushes on the sides, making Sierra pinstripes likely. The route includes some short shelf sections as it navigates the varied terrain. The trail climbs (or drops) almost 800 feet in just over 4 miles.

Difficulty
While most of the trail earns a rating of 2, the big dips and whoops elevate it to a 3 rating overall. The track is relatively smooth, but there are some unexpected dips after mile 2 coming from the north, so use caution. Deep whoops in some areas would cause issues for long wheelbase vehicles. High clearance is highly recommended in these sections. The trail features sections of ruts and off-camber terrain, with sand that can be deep in spots and some additional ruts throughout.
History
Historical evidence shows that Native Americans settled in the area as early as 13,500 years ago. More recent American settlement and resource extraction, including ranching, grazing, and gold mining.
