Trail Overview

China Wells (FS 6S015) serves as the primary "spinal cord" of the Miami Mountain OHV system. This wide, well-graded forest service road runs north-south through the network, connecting the popular Kamook Staging Area to the southern reaches of the trail system. Unlike the tight, twisty spurs that branch off it, China Wells is a smooth and flowy gravel cruiser that lets you cover ground quickly and comfortably. The tread is wide enough for two vehicles to pass easily in most spots, making it a stress-free environment for beginners or those towing trailers to dispersed campsites. While generally smooth, you might encounter the occasional washboard ripple, shallow rut, or small embedded rock, but nothing that will spill your coffee. It is the perfect warm-up lap before diving into the tighter trails nearby.

Difficulty

This trail is the definition of an easy forest road. The surface is consistently wide, graded gravel and dirt with excellent traction and visibility. There are no technical obstacles, steep climbs, or clearance issues to navigate. It is suitable for all vehicles, including 2WD pickups, crossovers, and stock SUVs. While 4WD isn't necessary, high clearance is always a "nice to have" on any forest road to smooth out the potholes and washboards. It effectively functions as a dirt highway for the OHV area.
