Trail Overview

Soquel Meadow (FS 6S040) is more than just a bumpy ride in the woods; it is a strategic and scenic link in the local network. This 1.7-mile forest service road serves as a vital connector bridging the gap between the paved sections of Sky Ranch Road (6S010) and Beasore Road (FS 5S07). It allows explorers to loop between these two major arteries without dropping back down towards town, keeping you right in the heart of the action near Greys Mountain Campground, Soquel Campground, and the North Fork of Willow Creek. While technically an "easy" drive, the tread is a jarring mix of dirt and heavily embedded rock, forcing drivers to slow down to avoid the constant "thump-thump" of the suspension. It cuts through a dense, shady forest canopy, offering a cool and rugged transit between the smooth pavement above and the creek below.

Difficulty

This trail earns a Rating 2 specifically because of the embedded rock surface. While there are no technical ledges, steep climbs, or difficult obstacles that require 4WD, the roadbed is consistently rough and uneven. A standard passenger car could technically make it, but the constant vibration and potential for striking a larger fixed rock on the oil pan make high clearance strongly recommended. It is not a smooth gravel road; it requires drivers to slow down and pay attention to the terrain to avoid a jarring ride.
