Trail Overview

This is an easy, fast, and short connector trail designed to efficiently link the rougher Barbecue (8S056) route back to the main Red Mountain Road (8S010) network. The trail is a wide, well-defined two-track with a smooth, packed dirt surface, allowing for quick transit. Warning: This route runs entirely through the 2020 Creek Wildfire burn scar, granting expansive views but creating significant environmental hazards. This is an ideal spot for finding a flat and level dispersed campsite in the high country, provided snag hazards are managed.

Difficulty

Rated 2 (Smooth Connector): This trail remains firmly in the easy category. High clearance and 4WD are not required for transit on this road, as the smooth, packed dirt surface is easily navigable by all passenger vehicles when dry. The R2 rating is assigned conservatively due to the loose aggregate and high-altitude setting, but this is a stress-free route that requires minimal effort.
