Trail Overview

This is a short and easy single track that makes a loop with 16EV177 and 16EV176. It weaves along an easy forested path, through a wide corridor between pine trees. The dirt is smooth and rock-free. There was a large downed log midway through this trail that looked like new downfall that will be difficult to get over until it gets cut. This area looks like it usually gets cleared for the season, so it will likely get cut. The rest of the trail is easy despite the one log. It's pretty gradual for the majority of the half mile route until a semi-steep descent on the east end down to the intersection with 16EV176. The intersections on this trail were mostly unmarked, or there was a small trail sign hiding in the bushes, but in general it was still easy to follow. This trail is seasonally closed 12/16 - 4/14 to motorized use.

Difficulty

The trail itself is very easy, but there was one large log down that will add to the difficulty. It will likely get cut eventually, as it looks like most other logs are cut on this trail. Riders should always be aware of new log hazards.

Access Description

This trail system in the Stanislaus National Forest can be accessed from either the Deer Creek Staging Area on the west side of the trail system, or from Crandall Campground on the east side of the trail system. The Deer Creek Staging Area is a primitive dirt lot with space for several vehicles and small trailers, accessed via Italian Bar Road. The Crandall OHV Parking and Camping Area has several primitive camp spots with picnic tables. All of the trails are open from April 15 to December 15, but it gets really hot and dry in the summer here, so the best times to visit are spring and fall.
