Trail Overview

The Main Divide is composed of 3 sections, all of which are easy going trails that can be done with any high clearance 4x4 or a low clearance AWD vehicle with care. This trail offers some of the most amazing views of the Temescal Valley below and Los Angeles beyond. On a clear day you can see all the way to the ocean, and sometimes even glimpse Catalina Island. Pack some lunch and hit the trails before sunset to catch one of the best views you'll ever see. The road to Santiago Peak within the radio tower should not be attempted in a low-clearance vehicle due to the deep ruts and rocky surfaces that can do damage to cars.

Easy 2 wheel drive trail, road has been improved since last year. The only place currently needing 4x4 is side shoots and the radio tower which is optional. Great sunset picnic dinner with the wife and kids.

Trail is a convenient escape nestled in the heart of Southern California. While there are a couple of side paths that demand extra suspension travel, the majority of the trail is easily manageable by 2WD vehicles, provided you exercise caution. Only registered vehicles are permitted on the trail, so no side-by-sides, ATVs, or dirt bikes are allowed. One important detail to remember is that there was a significant issue with flies at the summit. Swarms of them were present, but only at the peak.
