Trail Overview
Easy gravel road with water crossings, bridges, and scenic views through the vast trees that line this route. Lots of shade during the summertime from the over 60 species of trees that inhabit the Ouachita National Forest. The most interesting part about this route is the water research station I found near a creek. Alum Creek was used primarily to study the effects of different silvicultural practices on forest hydrology. The climate is humid subtropical with hot humid summers and mild winters. Mean daily temperatures range from -1 to 34deg C. The mean annual precipitation of 1,321 mm occurs almost entirely as rain and is distributed fairly uniformly throughout the year.
