Trail Overview

A bucket list camping destination! This out-and-back trail on the north rim of the Grand Canyon takes you to Point Sublime dispersed camping area with 360 views of the canyon. The trail passes through a deep forest along the rim. It is moderately difficult and most likely impassable when wet/snowy. This route is just one way to get there. There are multiple routes you can explore. You will pass by multiple dispersed camping spots and fire lookout towers along the way. The best part - it's very unlikely you will see another group of people here. It's very remote so be prepared. A permit is required to camp.

Access via Widforss Rd features moderately difficult terrain with deep ruts, washouts and steep grades. However access from Forest Rd 22 is easier terrain primarily featuring washboard gravel roads with a few steep grades and narrow sections.

Rough/Deteriorated
Trail is about 2 hours one way. I have had people tell me they have made it in 2WD SUVs but I wouldn't attempt it. Trail is not too rough in normal conditions but there are 3 or 4 sand washes that would just become mud pits after a good rain. Some tight squeezes between trees that would be difficult for larger vehicles, but passable.

Access Description

From the main road Highway 67, just south of Demotte campground, head west on Forest Road 22. It's easy to miss so go slow. There are multiple ways you can take and explore as you will.
