Trail Overview
The southern section of the Pinal Pioneer Pole Line Road, extending from Freeman to a private ranch, provides an excellent trail for OHV vehicles. This route is generally wide and easy to navigate, making it a favorable alternative to highway travel. As you traverse this section, you'll encounter a few sandy stretches along with occasional washouts, particularly as you cross the various washes that can become muddy and flooded during the rainy season. While the trail is primarily a straightforward path, it does diverge from the pole line at times to pass over different washes. Be cautious of deeper ledges as you navigate these areas, and watch for narrow sections of tight shrubs and trees that could inflict Arizona pinstripes on your vehicle's paint. Despite these minor challenges, the trail offers a pleasant drive through a landscape abundant with desert variations, including the potential for local wildlife sightings. As this area is open range, please be diligent in ensuring that any gates you encounter are securely closed and latched as you pass through to maintain the safety and access of the land. Important Note: Cellular service is variable along the trail, usually offering around two bars of Verizon LTE, which may fade in and out as you progress. Please remember to download your offline maps before heading out. During your adventure, be aware that the trail ends where a rancher mentioned that the gate ahead would be locked. Therefore, it may be best to turn around, head towards the highway, or exit the trail via Durham Wash to continue your exploration. As always, carry plenty of water and supplies for a safe and enjoyable trip through the desert!
