Trail Overview
FS 9603S begins through a gated entrance off Arizona State Route 260. No camping is allowed in this area. The trail initially enters on private property off Highway 260, so please continue through without stopping other than to close the gate and respect all posted signs. This trail can also be accessed from FS 9650C. FS 9603S is an easy but consistently bumpy two-track route with a mostly wide trail surface through the majority of the drive. Terrain consists of dirt and gravel with scattered small loose rocks and mild washouts, making it suitable for most high-clearance vehicles in dry conditions. The trail remains relatively straightforward until the far end, where conditions begin to tighten considerably. After crossing Grief Hill Wash, the route narrows into a tighter shelf-road style section with increased brush with likely pinstriping. A steep hill climb follows before the trail reaches a severely flood-damaged area. Beyond the large wash crossing, the trail becomes completely impassable due to erosion and flood damage. A good turnaround point is near the wash after the narrow shelf-road section, before the major flood damage area begins. Beyond the wash, you will have to back down and out.

Difficulty
Fairly easy until the end, after you cross the wash, the hill climb is steep and overgrown with tight vegetation and pinstripes likely. But after you climb it, the trail is impassable due to major washout. Wash may be impassable after rain.
