Trail Overview
The Freeman Tank trail begins its journey in the deep sands of Suffering Wash, quickly redirecting north towards the large Freeman Tank. This well-maintained path serves as a primary access route for local ranching activity. Respect the surrounding property rights and the connection to ranch land, ensuring you follow designated access routes. As you traverse this enjoyable trail, you'll be surrounded by iconic massive Arizona saguaro cacti, including some majestic giants adorned with numerous arms. The further you venture toward the tank, the denser and more impressive these ancient sentinels become, providing a stunning backdrop along your journey. This area presents an exceptional opportunity for photography and nature appreciation, especially with the grandeur of the saguaros in full view. Before reaching the tank, you'll find a spacious open area that would make a perfect remote dispersed campsite. While the tank itself is pretty massive and, at the time of recording, was dry, it offers a peaceful spot to take in the majesty of the surrounding landscape. Keep in mind that this trail not only intersects washes but begins within one, which can pose challenges during the rainy season. Conditions may lead to changes in the trail's accessibility, making planning based on current weather patterns crucial. Important Note: Generally, you can expect around two bars of LTE Verizon service along the route, providing some connectivity. Before setting out on your adventure, don't forget to secure your Arizona State Land Trust permit for access. As always, prepare adequately for the desert environment by bringing ample water and supplies as you navigate this beautiful area.
