Trail Overview
FR 272 is a 6.6-mile point-to-point trail rated 3 of 10 located in the Kaibab National Forest. FR 272 passes through a ponderosa pine and aspen forest. Two miles west from the intersection of FR 214 and 272, the trail has a moderately steep downgrade with loose rock and ledges. There are a few dispersed campsites along the trail and plenty more along the numerous spur trails. The trail is narrow in many areas and the low areas tend to collect water and make the trail muddy. The trail is open year-round; however, it is not plowed in the winter and may be inaccessible due to snow. There is no cell phone coverage in the area, and the nearest fuel is either at Jacob Lake or inside the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park (entry fee required). The nearest services can be found in Fredonia.
