East Sumner Mountain is mostly large rip rap or loose rock, some uneven road areas where water has washed out areas. The road is overgrown with grass and vegetation as you get towards the end. Rating is a 3 as this road is mostly loose rock, uneven road, and is a one lane. There is a lot of wildlife in this area. Be safety minded as there are Brown Bear, Black Bear, Deer, and Porcupines in this area. Driving on the road, you can see obvious signs of bears, Deer, and Porcupines. Weather plays a part in the level of difficulty as this is in a rainforest, with heavy rainfall causing rutted roads and potential washouts. There are sections of loose rock. There are a lot of Ferns, tall grass, a variety of trees, devil's club, lichens, moss, and Red Cedar trees can be seen along the road. There are no visible camping spots on this road, and the end of the road is overgrown and impassable, and turns into a closed road at 1.33 miles in. There isn't much room for a turnaround at the end and it is not advisable to bring trailers on this road due to narrow roads and no turnarounds. Warnings: Keep on the road, drop off areas. Watch for signs of road deterioration or washouts due to heavy rainfall. Be mindful of wildlife, especially Bears. No cell service noted. Check weather conditions and be prepared for rain, fog with low visibility, and lower temperatures. It is a rainforest. Suggested best time of year: June - October. Note: This road is a down and back.
