Trail Overview
Dry Strait Road is mostly a gravel and dirt road. It is a maintained road. This road has 1 connecting small road (Pitt Road) with a couple of short spur roads ( Dry Strait Spur 1 and Spur 2) that could use some maintenance to open them further. It is a one lane road that is wide enough in most areas to move over for oncoming vehicles, and some areas with pull outs. Multiple old wooden bridges crossing over creeks. 3 campsites along the trail as well as 2 Garnet mines. Lots of wildlife along this road and offshoots. Moose, Wolves, Brown and Black Bear, Deer, Grouse, and Porcupine. There are some potholes along the road and next to the old wooden bridges to watch for. Overall, this road is a nice road with scenic views of creeks, meadows, and forested areas as well as views of Dry Strait. There are a lot of wildlife in this area. Be safety minded as there are bears, Wolves, Moose, Deer, and Porcupines along this road. Weather plays a part in the level of difficulty as this is in a rainforest and a lot of these roads are going through areas of muskeg/wetlands. There are sections of loose rock and parts of the road have drop offs where there is a gain in elevation. There are great views of muskeg/wetlands. This road starts on Three Lakes Loop and ends at a nice viewpoint and camp area overlooking Dry Strait. Large skunk cabbage, devils club, tall grass, as well as a variety of trees, lichens, moss, and flowers can be seen along the road. 2 Garnet mines on this road are marked with signs. They are private mines and are marked that garnets cannot be collected without permission. Views: Meadows, creeks, Dry Strait, and forested scenics. There are 3 dry camping spots along the road. Bridges: 3 old wooden bridges. Warnings: Keep on the road (Muskeg and wetlands), watch for signs of road deterioration or washouts due to heavy rainfall. Be mindful of wildlife, especially Bears. No cell service noted. Check weather conditions and be prepared for rain, fog with low visibility, and lower temperatures. It is a rainforest. Suggested best time of year: June - October. Note: This road is a down and back.
