Trail Overview
This route is one of two gateways to Middle Road, leading to a stunning off-road trail that traces the coastline down to Santa Rosalillita. Beginning off Highway 1, the path quickly becomes rugged, with loose rocks and a series of short, steep climbs that test your skills. As you find your rhythm, you'll be immersed in the mesmerizing landscape of Valle de los Cirios, or "Valley of the Candles," named for its dense stands of towering El Cordon cacti and boojum trees, which resemble candles crowned with blooms. The trail winds through this remarkable desert vegetation, offering breathtaking views and narrow passages around massive cacti. The route concludes where the two entrances to Middle Road converge, opening into further unexplored terrain--or you can take the southern path back to Highway 1.
