Trail Overview

This off-road route begins near Santiago, branching off from the trail to Sol Mar and offering a scenic 12-mile journey into the heart of Baja's rugged terrain. The initial stretch is well-graded, allowing for a smooth and steady pace, making it suitable for any 2WD vehicle with decent ground clearance. However, drivers of larger rigs should be mindful of low-hanging trees, ranging from 10 to 11 feet, as well as a few steep and potentially slippery sections that can pose a challenge. Despite these obstacles, it's not uncommon to see larger vehicles navigating the route successfully. As the road ascends another 1,000 feet, the scenery becomes even more breathtaking, winding through canyons along a riverbed and passing several working ranches--many of which offer camping and cabin accommodations. The journey culminates at Rancho Dionisio, a remote yet well-equipped retreat deep in the canyon, where visitors will find an unexpected level of comfort and amenities. Spending at least one night here is highly recommended for those looking to fully immerse themselves in this secluded and serene landscape.
