FS 5N30

Trail Overview

This 3.2-mile out-and-back trail begins right off Highway 108 and climbs over 1,000 feet through a dense pine forest lined with mountain brush. The trail surface is compact sand and dirt with light gravel in some sections, making it accessible to most high-clearance vehicles. The route winds steadily uphill, with intermittent views of surrounding Sierra Nevada peaks through the trees. Near mile 1, the trail follows a narrow shelf road that provides glimpses of ridgelines and forested canyons below. The steady climb, combined with shaded forest and occasional open spots, creates a scenic and enjoyable experience.

The trail includes shallow ruts formed by water erosion and the occasional mud hole after rain, but overall presents minimal technical challenges. The shelf road section around mile 1 requires moderate awareness due to limited passing space, though traction remains firm throughout.
