Trail Overview

Mormon Well is a stock-friendly trail that crosses the Desert National Wildlife Refuge. You will cross a well-maintained dirt road that rises in elevation from the desert floor to more than 6,000 feet in elevation. Along the way you will see desert joshua forests give way to groves of pine trees. Picnic and camping areas can be found at the midway point of the trail. Enjoy the change of scenery and keep an eye out for wildlife as big horn sheep, elk and wild burros are commonly seen in the area. Winter does bring snow to the area, so make sure to check the weather ahead of any travel.

Difficulty

This is a well-traveled dirt road, with passenger cars commonly seen on the trail.

Strat with light snow on Peek-a -Boo canyon and after it there road got wet and muddy . Driving for another half a mile and snow covers the road. Most of the road is only 1 vehicle pass with the icy road is really hard to pass incoming vehicles. Camp side there is about 20 invh of snow

Starting from the visitor center, the trail is easy. During the day it was nice and warm. once in the small canyon, the temperature dropped and the road narrowed to 1 car width. Once you pass the campsite the road is a little rougher but still not bad
