Trail Overview
Pennsylvania Canyon Road connects the Elgin Schoolhouse (at 3,400 ft elevation) to the Ella Mountain Lookout (at 7,200 ft elevation). It is about 12 miles long. Starting at the Elgin Schoolhouse the road climbs desert ridges until reaching evergreens at higher elevations. At times it is in and along a wash with sand, gravel, and some larger rocks. It gets steeper as it nears the Ella Mountain Lookout tower. If you start from Ella Mountain and descend to the Elgin Schoolhouse you get great views and can see for miles. The trail is mostly easy with some moderate sections. At the top of Ella Mountain there is a lookout tower with views in every direction for miles.
