Trail Overview
This trail takes you from Round Lake Road to Kelly Lake through a mix of logging roads and trails. The whole route is a loop that takes approximately 2 hours total to complete (1 hour either way). This route is not a maintained trail, so use it at your own risk. The route begins from Round Lake Road which consists of a mix between loose gravel and dirt for the first half of the route. During this time, there is plenty of space on either side, and several opportunities to stop for food, truck checks, and turnaround points. The second half of the route turns left off from the logging road and onto a trail that leads to Kelly Lake. This trail gets increasingly narrow between bushes, so expect pin strips. This trail consists mainly of small rock outcrops, small water crossings, and dirt. Both rock outcrops and water crossings are up to 10 inches, with most water crossings having hidden rocks underneath, so drive slow! Towards the end of the second half, there is an option for a more challenging path or an easier path. The challenging path consists of a small hill with medium to large rock outcrops and deep ruts, requiring a 4x4, a lift, and ideally a winch and lockers. The easier path will take you slightly down into a more swampy area, which may require the use of 4x4 depending on your tires. This later half of the route offers minimal opportunities to turn around, especially the closer you get to the lake so be mindful! Once at Kelly Lake, there are two campsites. The first is readily accessible and the second is across a very deep water crossing, up to 2 feet with significant rocks beneath. Both campsites are on the Lakes edge. There is lots of space at the first campsite to park several vehicles if you are planning a trip with friends!
