Trail Overview
Dorr West Road begins as an enjoyable and relatively easy off-road experience, weaving in and out of densely treed sections and opening up into picturesque meadows. Expect a mix of classic trail conditions, including washboard surfaces, potholes, and the occasional mud puddle. As the main road heads south towards a more developed area, Dorr West Rd crosses a cattle guard and enters a beautiful wooded section. Here, you'll find a network of single-track trails crisscrossing the area, creating a fantastic OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) playground with numerous riding options. Continuing towards the water's edge, you'll discover an abundance of excellent camping spots with established fire rings, perfect for enjoying the tranquility of the lake. As you progress further along the trail, the terrain becomes slightly more rocky and challenging, justifying the moderate difficulty rating. However, it remains manageable for most capable off-road vehicles. Dorr West Road is an ideal trail for camping enthusiasts and those seeking a basecamp for lake activities and dispersed camping. Cell service in the Lake Koocanusa area can be intermittent. To ensure you have consistent map coverage, please download your offline maps before exploring the area. Crown Land Camping: Canadian Crown land is open to Canadian residents for free camping. Out-of-country visitors, particularly from the US, will need to obtain a camping permit from the nearest FrontCounter BC office in Cranbrook before camping on Crown land if camping outside of the paid campsite.
