Trail Overview

Traveling from County Road 126 westbound, the trail begins with a large parking area at the Little Scraggy Trailhead. There is a pit toilet with picnic tables. This is a fee parking area, which is a very popular unloading spot for mountain bikers. There is a sign at the beginning stating camping is in designated spots only - this trail has a total of 38 well-marked spots with fire pits/grill grates, geared mainly toward ground tent style camping. The road from CR 126 to Stony Pass Road (FS 543) is graded and two vehicles wide. Shinglemill and Gashouse trailheads are accessible via this road with respective parking areas, as well as Buffalo and Meadows campgrounds. Buffalo/Meadows is managed by the Forest Service and is open during the summer months via their reservation system. Beyond the FS 543 junction, the road slims to a single width and is no longer graded as smoothly as the eastern half. This is still accessible by 2WD vehicles; however, it will be a slower trek from this point. Hang left at the junction for FS 549; the road returns to graded at the county line and nearby residences, with the road ending at the intersection for Wellington Lake Road (County Road 68).
