Ss1180

Trail Overview

Trail Ss1180 branches off Ss1181 and heads south across open desert terrain. Shortly after beginning, you'll climb a small hill and enter a tight section of trees where pinstripes are almost guaranteed. Fortunately, this narrow stretch is short, and the trail widens again soon after. This is a very natural, minimally maintained route. Early on, you'll encounter deep ruts -- evidence of previous travel during wet conditions. These ruts are significant, so use caution and choose your line carefully. Beyond this section, additional ruts and overgrown vegetation continue intermittently along the trail. You will then come upon a fenced area in the middle of the desert. The original track has been rerouted. Look to your right to follow the established path around the fence, which reconnects with the main line on the south side. From here, the terrain transitions into deeper sand. Four-wheel drive is recommended, especially during or after wet weather. The remainder of the trail consists primarily of sandy desert track. Next, you'll reach a windmill and corral area. The trail weaves through and wraps around this feature, offering several route options. This trail continues to the right and soon ends at a closed gate at State trust land.

This trail features sections of deep sand that can make travel more difficult despite the otherwise easy rating. 4WD with high clearance is recommended to navigate the sandy conditions.
