Trail Overview

The Ponds #5220 is an intermediate ATV trail that begins at the Green Basin Motorized Trailhead, near dispersed campsites. The trail has several huge waterbars in the beginning, preventing vehicles without high clearance from entering. The trail is grassy and overgrown in places, indicating it may not see heavy traffic. It climbs steadily through a forested corridor before reaching a more demanding section in the trees, where the trail becomes steeper with big loose rocks, deeper ruts, and loose dirt that makes traction difficult. The ruts are off-camber in places, and the climb continues for a good half mile. After topping out on Harrington Peak Road, the trail turns south on the road, then starts again at the end of the fence line, dropping down into an open meadow, passing a couple of ponds, and ending at Big Basin Ridge Road.

Difficulty

This is an intermediate trail due to the long, steep climb with loose rock, ruts, and off-camber sections that can make traction difficult. While the meadow section is mellow, the extended uphill segment adds moderate challenge.
