Trail Overview

Box Canyon Road is a 2.4-mile out-and-back trail branching off Quilomene Ridge Road and leading to an overlook with views of Box Canyon to the north and the Columbia River Gorge on clear days. The road surface begins as dirt with embedded rocks and sections of ruts that can become muddy following wet weather. The surface gradually transitions to solely fist-sized embedded rocks towards the end of the trail. This trail is managed by the Washington Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Fish and Wildlife. A Washington State Discover Pass is required for access. Motorized vehicle use is restricted to roads marked with green dots only, as per management regulations. Box Canyon Road is accessible year-round; however, the first 0.9 miles between Quilomene Ridge Road and Road 19 run along the northern border of a winter closure area, where motorized travel is prohibited from February 1st through May 1st.
