Trail Overview

Because Texas has very little public land, what better way to check out most of it in one trip. Starting off with a piece of International history on the east edge of the route, then winding down through Cyprus, Ponderosa and Mimosa trees along the largest lake in Texas then out and across the remaining sections of National Forest over the next couple of days. Camping options range from high end RV Parks to solo dispersed sites along the lakes or in the woods. Terrain varies from red dirt to rock to black clay, all of which changes with just a little bit of rain. You will cross parts of El Camino Real if history intrigues you at all.

Trail was still pretty muddy from recent rains. Beautiful day. Had the trail almost exclusively to myself on a Sunday afternoon.

Not sure why previous recent reports say that the roads are closed but at least the roads from Sam Rayburn Dam to Livingston are open and public. One section was marked as closed and was super muddy despite no recent rain, but it was easy enough to backtrack a mile and rejoin the marked route.
