2021 Hunt Application Deadlines

Make the most of the upcoming hunting seasons by using onX Hunt during application season.

Application season is here, and deadlines are looming for many key states. Hunters around the country are still putting together their lists of dream hunts and hoping luck is on their side. We’re doing the same here at onX. Anticipation runs high, and with the arrival of March we’re very ready for spring, summer and then what comes after.

We spend a lot of time staring at maps daydreaming of where our future hunts will take us, and a considerable part of that process is looking into application deadlines. onX has partnered with Toprut for draw odds and Huntin’ Fool for hunt planning tools to give you the best information for preparing your hunting season. onX Elite Members now have access to these tools for free—if you are a Premium or a Basic Member, upgrade now to gain access to our new Elite Benefits Program.

Scouting and knowing an area plays a big part in deciding where to hunt. While it helps if you know the area you’re putting in for, sometimes that’s not possible. Scouting quality hunting land is much easier on a big screen using 3D Mode on the desktop version of onX Hunt. You can view your onX maps on all modern browsers and is available to everyone with an onX Membership at no additional cost. Data saved on the web, such as Waypoints, Tracks, and more, syncs seamlessly across all devices that are logged into the same account.

Other onX features make the process of exploring your hunting unit easier: public / private land boundaries let you see how much of a hunting unit is public land and find legal access to that land. Our 3D Basemap lets you gauge the difficulty of the terrain, and it’s easy to switch GMU (game management unit) sublayers to find the specific GMU boundaries for the species you are looking for. Use one of our many other curated layers designed to help hunters in both the planning and in the field phases of their seasons.

Here at onX, we’ll have our maps pulled up on one computer screen or tab, Huntin’ Fool or Toprut in another, and then pull up the state agency on a third screen or tab. It’s easy to explore and study hunting units on the web-based maps, then apply for the same unit directly on the state game management agency’s website.

Ready to apply for that dream hunt? Need a bit of inspiration? We wrote about the most sought-after hunts in the western U.S. in Best in the West: The Most Coveted Dream Tags for Every Western State. This blog covers a handful of those coveted tags you hope to draw once in your lifetime. Choices were based on draw difficulty, trophy potential and the ability to offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience. (This list could easily only consist of sheep tags, but we’ve covered a variety of species throughout the West.)

Now it’s time to pull up onX, Toprut, and Huntin’ Fool, and start scouring hunting districts. Spring is nearly here; summer will fly by and soon fall will arrive. Where will you be hunting?
