Marquette Access Road

Trail Overview

Spur road off the end of Carter Mountain Access Road, leading to Hidden Lake. Much more difficult and rugged than the main Carter Mountain Road. This road has incredible views overlooking the Southfork Valley, dense forests (rare in Wyoming), small streams, lakes, and wildlife viewing opportunities. Wildflowers, including wild roses, can be found at certain times of the year. This trail has special closure dates that vary by vehicle type. Check with the Forest Service to make sure.

Difficulty

The route is mostly dirt and rocks without much maintenance, and can be difficult. Several deep mud holes with steep walls must be traversed. Some tight sections with trees lining the sides of the path. There are several small stream crossings. Near Hidden Lake, there are several small hills and valleys that might pose a challenge to longer wheelbase vehicles.

History

This road is part of an extensive network of logging roads. Evidence of early logging can be found in the cross-cut stumps along the way.
